Ultra Mobile Updates “Unlimited Plans” to Include Truly Unlimited 5G Data

Ultra Mobile removed the high-speed data limits on its "unlimited plans", which start at $40/month plus tax. Previously, Ultra Mobile's unlimited plans included up to 60GB of data at 5G data speeds per billing cycle before throttling to 3G data speeds or a maximum of 512Kbps.

Now, customers will get unlimited 5G data with no permanent throttling after 60GB. However, customers that use more than 35GB of data during a month will have their data access deprioritized. That means when the network is congested with a lot of traffic, your data speeds will temporarily slow down until the congestion is relieved. Videos stream at a resolution of 480p.

T-Mobile announced the changes to Ultra Mobile's plans in a press release. The T-Mobile-owned prepaid brand is also offering a deal on its base unlimited plan. Customers with three lines can get it for $85/month for life, as long as the account remains active with three lines. Cancelled and terminated lines will result in loss of the promotion. Taxes and fees are extra and up to two additional lines can be added for $24/line.

To celebrate the changes, Ultra Mobile is running a giveaway. Fifty lucky winners will receive six months of Ultra's Unlimited plan plus six months of their favorite streaming music service for free. New Unlimited customers will automatically be entered in the contest when they purchase a plan. Anyone can also enter the giveaway by sharing their favorite service for binging movies, shows, sports and more from around the world on Ultra

Mobile’s Instagram or at WinWithUltra.com.

In May, T-Mobile completed its acquisition of both Mint Mobile and Ultra Mobile. This is the first major change that T-Mobile has made to either brand's permanent rate cards since acquiring them. Mint Mobile's plans still do not have truly unlimited data, but that could be something that changes. Of course, T-Mobile could opt to keep them as they are to help differentiate them from its other prepaid brands which include Metro by T-Mobile and T-Mobile Prepaid.

Currently, Ultra Mobile's unlimited plans are now starting to blur a little with Metro by T-Mobile's offerings, although each brand caters to a different audience. Ultra Mobile has been sold primarily through prepaid wireless dealers and online, focusing on persons with international calling and texting needs. They also have a SIM card footprint in some Walmarts. Metro by T-Mobile has been primarily sold through branded stores and has a significant presence at Walmart. Mint Mobile is sold at Target and Best Buy but is not available at Walmart.
