Cricket Wireless Data Only Plans Promo Will Get You 50GB Of Bonus Data

Cricket Wireless recently launched a new promotion for select data-only plans offering new lines an additional 50GB of data to use per month. The $55/month plan, initially providing 50GB of high-speed data, will now include 100GB, while the $90/month plan, which normally offers 100GB, will come with 150GB. The bonus data will be added to the accounts the day after activation. This is a limited-time offer, scheduled to end on 7/31/23.

The data-only plans can be used not just domestically, but also in Mexico and Canada with certain usage restrictions. In either country, data usage cannot exceed 50% within a three-month period. Roaming data speeds may also be reduced to 2G.

Wave7 Research first began observing signage in Cricket Stores highlighting the bonus data offer in late April and detailed the finding in a prepaid report the firm just sent out to its subscribers. However, to date, efforts elsewhere to promote the deal seem to be minimal to non-existent. For instance, there is nothing on Cricket's homepage or in their newsroom that mentions the data-only plans bonus data. And BestMVNO is unaware of any TV or radio ads promo marketing it either. Cricket's online and TV marketing efforts are instead more focused on its offer of a free Moto G 5G which is highlighted on its homepage and in this TV spot ad "Stay With Cricket: Stone P" which launched at the end of April.

“Adding 50GB of bonus data for the same price is a generous promotion. I’m surprised that Cricket Wireless is not doing more to promote it.” – Jeff Moore, Principal of Wave7 Research

Cricket's data-only plans can only be used with Cricket's Turbo Hotspot 2 device, and other network-compatible devices like tablets, however, smartwatches still don't appear to be supported.

All major carrier-owned prepaid brands, some of which include Metro by T-Mobile, Verizon's Straight Talk, and DISH's Boost Mobile offer data-only plans. There are dozens of them on the market, ranging in price from $4 plus tax per month up to $184.99 or more with data allotments being advertised as 100MB to 750GB to even unlimited.
